It’s A Good Thing Xbox One is Closing the Gap

What's Your Tag?

microsoft-xbox-one-review-system-v2With the announcement of 6.6 million in sales last quarter, the total console sales are now significantly closer with PS4 still leading at about 18.5 million sold, and Xbox One somewhere in the 11-12 million range. Not only is Microsoft edging its way back to the top, it is forcing Sony off of its heels.

We’ve already seen some of the positive effects this is having for consumers. The Xbox One price drop during the holiday season is back for an extension, but that may not be the only reason for the up tick in sales. Smaller initiatives like improving Xbox Live Gold membership benefits have helped as well. There is also the huge sums of money being used to secure exclusives from smaller titles like Scalebound to triple-a titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider. Even the HoloLens reveal shows a willingness to innovate.

Can or Will Destiny Be Fixed?

What's Your Tag?

Destiny-HDDespite any of our personal feelings about Destiny, it is not going away. The next DLC is slated to release in March of 2015 and Bungie has a contract with Activision for five more years. The game itself has become a polarizing subject with people either loving or loathing it for various reasons. Bungie has been updating the game since its launch to the tune of over a dozen patches in addition to the first DLC package, but some of their decisions have been questionable.

So, can Destiny be fixed? Whether you care to admit it or not, Bungie did build a functional shell for the game. All the technical makings are there to build upon, but the lack of story and questionable system and resource management seems to be hindering the game more than anything. Changes to the game, like the overhaul of The Iron Banner, show promise that additional…

PODCAST: Looking Ahead to the Games of 2015!

What's Your Tag?

2015 is loaded with a healthy amount of games to be released, and it’s only January. Everything from new titles and sequels, to re-releases and remasters in just about every genre are headed our way. Whether it’s a AAA title or a small indie, there will be plenty for all of us, and we’ll have to make some tough choices as to which ones are worth opening our wallets for.

Some of these upcoming games have us salivating in anticipation, be it a new entry to our favorite series or a new universe to explore, but others also have us a little concerned. Not all of the upcoming games are going to be good–sorry to have to break that to you–so we’ll be covering that as well.

We’ve taken a look over this year’s pending releases and considered all the information we can to determine what we’re excited for and what still concerns us. The…

Dude’s Chronicles 1-25-2015: Lack of Sleep

Sleep Computer Key Showing Insomnia Or Sleeping Disorders OnlineMaybe its the weather or maybe it’s just in my head, I had been sleeping fairly well up until last night but the restlessness kept me up most of the night. Since I was up anyway, I watched a bunch of movies…

dreddDredd – I actually like this version better than the Stallone one from the 90’s. Karl Urban was so salty and pissy, I thought he was a perfect Dredd. There hasn’t been too much talk about getting the sequel done which disappoints me.

Hellboy – Yet another comic turned into a movie that I enjoy but also has a pending sequel that doesn’t seem to be getting done.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation – I don’t think this movie is great but I don’t think it is bad either. If you are basing a movie on a line of toys, this is what you get.

Batman & Robin – The only reason I even considered watching this movie was because I read that is was going to be leaving Netflix soon. I had forgotten how terrible this movie was. Maybe it tried to hard to be like the comics and/or the original tv show, but either way this is a bad movie. One of the few redeeming qualities are all the terrible jokes Arnold Schwarzenegger delivers but even those get old and feel somewhat forced after a while.

Seven – Having never watched the entire movie, this was like a new experience to me. Additionally, the times I had watched it were on cable and therefore not all the scenes were shown. This was an excellent movie and I’m glad I watched it since it was probably the best of the ones I watched this week.

mass-effect-3-co-opI tried playing Destiny again but almost instantly hated myself for it. After grabbing some bounties, I had gone to the Moon to start one of them but then realized it required a Black Wax Idol. Unfortunately this forced me to switch characters, go to the Tower, put the Black Wax Idols in my vault, then switch back to the character I started with, get the Idols out of my vault, and finally go back to the Moon. By the time I had done all of this I was disgusted and remembered why I stopped playing this game.

Going back to Mass Effect 3 was a much more palatable option for my gaming time. I’m probably about halfway through the game and hope to finish it up this week. That will open next weekend up to playing more of Final Fantasy XIII, which is turning out to significantly longer than I had anticipated.

There is no football this week as I refuse to recognize the stage show that they try to put forth as an all-star game. I’m not even looking forward to the championship game next week either. That’s just more time for video games I guess.

Reader Discussion: Are Re-released Games, Like Star Wars, Worth Playing and Paying Again?

What's Your Tag?

star_wars_the_force_unleashed1Waiting for a new game to be released sucks. It seems to take forever and the game could end up being a dud. Sometimes the wait is the most unbearable part of the process and we have to find a way to cope. When you are dealing with a game based in a particular franchise or universe, you can relive some glory and kill time by playing existing games from said franchise.

Let’s look at one case in-particular: Star Wars. During the wait until Star Wars Battlefront is released, we keep seeing more and more of the Lucas Arts classics getting rereleased via digital venues and it begs the question…are they worth playing again?

“If you are a console aficionado, you have already limited your choices.”

It’s a hard question to answer with multiple angles to look at. If you are a console aficionado, you have already limited your…
