Dude’s Chronicles 12-28-2014: Twas The Season

The presents are opened and diner is gone. Next stop New Year’s.

Gaming took a bit of a back seat during the last week but I did manage to get some play time in. Temple of Osiris was the game I played the most. I still haven’t finished but I estimate I’m about halfway through the main game. Thus far it is much like its predecessor in many aspects. It does seem to be built completely upon the notion of having four players and that makes some parts of it seem odd or out of place. I also started playing The Lego Movie Videogame but only played the very first part of it.

Since gaming just wasn’t a top priority, I decided to entertain myself when I could and catch up on some movies and shows. The first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. proved to be interesting but I guess I have to wait until more than just the first season is on Netflix to see any more of it. Just because I thought it was so damn entertaining and funny, I watched Guardians of the Galaxy again. It occurs to me that this may very well be the best of the Marvel Universe movies to this point since it has all the action of The Avengers but has more humor and heart. The biggest disappoint, however, was watching Transformers: Age of Extinction. My expectations were low going in but I was still underwhelmed by it. The only good thing that came from it was that I better understand why the accompanying video game, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, was so bad.

On to the new year and let us all not forget the Golden Rule. There has been too much going on in the world of people not treating others right.

Dude’s Chronicles 12-21-2014: Those Other Things

Peanuts Smoothie with Ice Cream and CinnamonSo much to do, so little time. What do you mean Christmas is this week!?!?!

Having accepted the fact the Destiny is never going to live up to its potential or be the game I want it to be has freed up a ton of time for me.  I played a little bit more of Lego Batman and even played Final Horizon on my Vita. It was fun to revisit Lego Batman and perhaps I’ll go ahead and the play newer ones as well. Final Horizon is a great time killer for the Vita. Still being in the early stages of the game hasn’t provided me enough about the game to know how long I’ll stick with it though. One game that I just started playing but really looked forward to is Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The previous game, Guardian of Light, was a very well done arcade style game. So far this one is more of the same in many good ways. I want to play through it solo to see what it is like before playing online so that I can get a feel for how they scale it up for more players.

Flat-footballAs far as non-gaming activities, no movies or shows were watched this week. With the holidays at hand and work being a mess there just wasn’t time. Tried watching some football at a friend’s house but we got so disinterested in it we play some Forza 5.

Try not to eat or drink too much. Food and booze should be consumed in moderation but good times with friends and family should not. Merry Christmas.

Bungie Bungles The Iron Banner

What's Your Tag?

destiny-iron-bannerResetting reputation earned is the least of your concerns with this round of Destiny’sIron Banner. You should be more concerned that the possible rewards are not worth your effort.

If being disappointed by The Dark Below were not enough, the Iron Banner makes a less than triumphant return to Destiny and brings more shame to the game. Players will find that the reputation level they had earned previously has been reset to zero. This was well advertised and is how Bungie intends it to work for the event. The proper levels needed to acquire gear can be attained while completing bounties in the Iron Banner and equipping banners, shaders, and class items previously obtained quicken the process.

Destiny_20141217143457Where the game fails, yet again, is in the rewards players can get. Lord Saladin isn’t offering anything noticeably better than his Vanguard and Crucible counterparts. Armor prices have a max light level…

Tale of the Tape: The Order 1886 Still Confuses

What's Your Tag?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then apparently a video is worth a thousand questions. Even with two more videos coming out for The Order 1886, little is understood about the game. The video above is nothing more than a trailer for the game that may have been intended to devise intrigue, but it does nothing more than…well, nothing.

The second video should have really showcased the game and everything in it. Even if you ignore the constant text popping up on the screen, the video itself leaves little to be desired. Stealth mechanics mixed with cover based shooter elements is hardly anything new, but the game is doing little to sell itself by not revealing any of its story.

Those looking to learn more of the game and its general story should look elsewhere. Too little is being said to make it appeal to anybody, and that may ultimately…

Dude’s Chronicles 12-14-2014: Time For Other Things

Merry-Christmas-and-a-Happy-New-Year2It’s not even Christmas yet but there is time for some New Year’s style changes and goals.

Destiny-dark-belowThe thoughts I have on Destiny and The Dark Below expansion are documented here. Disappointment seems too light of a term, disillusionment may be more accurate. The time I spend playing this game will continue to diminish. Not only is the DLC content lack luster, I can’t help but feel something else is being done to the game. Even though gear is being sold that has a light level of 33, the game’s level cap is still being stated at 32. It appears that something artificial is being done to the leveling system to keep the players light level and thus their attack and defensive abilities down. The only character I am playing at this point has fully upgraded gear with the following light levels: 30, 33, 33, and 36; however, it is just barely at level 31.

GOTG-posterWith all the time that I did not play Destiny, I took the opportunity to catch up on some other things. All those movies and shows that I have been missing got some attention. Guardians of the Galaxy was a movie that I heard a lot of good things about but never got around to watching. This weekend finally provided the time and chance to do so. After having watched it, I should have done so sooner as it was highly entertaining.

I’ve also been trying to clear out some of the stuff I have queued up in Netflix. The first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the primary item I have been watching. Halfway through the first season I’m not sure about it. The slow start made watching it a drag but it seems to be getting better. Unfortunately, some time got lost when I happened to find Anchorman 2 and just had to watch it.

Since my recreational time will involve less Destiny, I’ll be filling it more with other things. One game that I decided to play was the original Lego Batman game on my PS3. This is a simple but fun game that doesn’t require a great deal of thought or skill. To help fill more of the time I’ll be trying to contribute more content to What’s Your Tag. In prior months I had been a more active contributor but I let Destiny suck up too much of my time. Shame on me for letting this happen.
