PlayStation Now Open Beta Is Live

What's Your Tag?

Sony’s answer to backward compatibility is getting one step closer to full release with the announcement that PlayStation Now is coming out of private beta and moving into an open beta.

If you just watched the video then you may already be scratching your head. If not, let me explain the beta a little bit and then you can scratch your head.

First off, the beta is only on PS4. PlayStation Now is set to come to other devices like PS3, PS Vita, PS TV, and Bravia televisions later. To get into the open beta all you have to do is open up the PlayStation Store on your PS4 and navigate to the PS Now menu.

Secondly, you are paying to rent games. That’s right – Sony is asking that you actually pay for your rentals and funds will be taken from your Sony wallet just…

Titanfall’s Second DLC Now Available

What's Your Tag?

titanfall-dlc-2For those still playing, or even interested, Frontier’s Edge officially released for Titanfall on Xbox One and PC earlier today. Time to face the new frontier folks.

Available as part of Titanfall’s season pass or as a standalone purchase for $9.99, Frontier’s Edge contains three new maps: Dig Site, Export, and Haven. Look for the Xbox 360 version to be released in the coming weeks.

This game kind of fell off the map for me. I’ll play it when I am in the mood for a multi-player experience, but I really haven’t played it much since the last DLC was released. Looks like I’m in for playing the game again since I did by the season pass.

PS-PlusPS Plus subscribers have something to look forward to in the month of August in 2014. The following games are coming PS Plus as the freebies for August. Behold!

  • Road Not Taken — a procedurally generated rougelike.
  • Fez — the critically acclaimed and hugely popular 2D twistable platformer.

  • Crysis 3 — fight in an over-grown New York City
  • Proteus — soundtracks are fitted to the game as you explore procedurally generated islands

PS Vita

  • Metrico — a geometric exploration game.
  • Dragon’s Crown — an action-RPG for up to four players.

I already own Crysis 3 on disk but never played it. Perhaps this is a sign to do so. As much as I’ve heard about Fez, I never got to play it either. Perhaps another sign.

EA Access Announced For Xbox One

What's Your Tag?

eaaccessblogbannerAnnounced as an Xbox One exclusive, the EA Access program will offer games to subscribers for a monthly or yearly fee. The program will operate more like Gamefly than Sony’s PlayStation Now service as games will be fully downloaded not streamed.

A limited beta with only Madden NFL 25, FIFA14, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 available will be followed by a full launch at a later date. The complete line-up of games has not been announced but EA says that it will include access to ‘The Vault’ of games. ‘The Vault’ being described as “an evolving selection of EA’s Xbox One games that EA Access members can download and play while an active member.”

Much like the Games with Gold on Xbox One and PS Plus on PS4, game progress will be saved but access to the game will be lost if the subscription is ended. Unlike…

System Software 1.75 Live For PS4

What's Your Tag?

ps4-hrdware-large19If last week’s 1.74 update for the PS4 and its ‘stability fixes’ wasn’t enough then rejoice as system software 1.75 is live and brining a few more features. So what do we get?

  • Ability to play 3D Blu-ray disk – You know for all those 3D movies you have for your 3D tv.
  • Automatically download featured content – It is not quite clear what exactly will be downloaded but this is most likely the feature Sony touted at the PS4 announcement that will preload content based on your purchase and play history.
  • New location for your notifications – Did you hate your notifications being on the upper-right of the screen? Well, now they are on the upper-left. You’re welcome.
  • Better audio when playing disc based movies at 1.5x speed – Really? Who does this? Take the proper time to enjoy the movie.

These are minor features and more are yet…
