A Note To My Readers

Well…Reviewer Discretion went silent for a few weeks for reasons personal, professional and perplexing. Sure I reblogged my work from What’s Your Tag? but even that went silent for a week. I promised my movie reviews and Words of Wisdumb would continue and I intend to keep that promise by getting back on track this week.

The plan is to return to my regular schedule of content here at Reviewer Discretion and What’s Your Tag? even as the ‘weirdness’ continues, I will endeavor to do my best as to not let another lapse happen again.

Even Hunter S. Thompson once said…’It never got weird enough for me.’

PlayStation and Bungie: Long Term Bros

What's Your Tag?

Destiny-Featured1

A lot has been made about the PS4 exclusives for Destiny but it would appear that the Bungie/PlayStation relationship goes much deeper. In fact, it goes so deep that Bungie had influence into the PS4 system and controller while it was still in development.

“They worked with us, of course, on core systems and the controller itself – making it better for shooters, helping improve that for players, helping include and improve the social aspects of the game,” – Eric Osborne, Head of Community at Bungie.

This is a relationship that must have been formed almost immediately after Bungie was independent again given how long the PS4 has been in development. Bungie gained its freedom back in 2007 and that is about how long Sony has been developing the PS4.

It’s no secret that Bungie had no presence on the PlayStation platform while under the thumb of Microsoft and…

2015: Year of the Wii U – I Called It!

What's Your Tag?

nintendo-scott-moffittOk, I admit it may have been a joke when I said it, but someone with a lot more insight and knowledge about the industry feels like the Wii U is getting ready to hit its stride. That person would be Scott Moffitt, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America, the smiley chap pictured above.

In a recent interview, Moffitt addressed the slow start that the Wii U has had and compared it to the early struggles of the now hugely successful 3DS. He pointed out that the 3DS hit its stride after a price cut and some great games, like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land, were released. The 3DS is probably holding Nintendo afloat at this point and it shows a large amount of confidence to compare the Wii U to it.

PlayStation Promises Fulfilled? Coming? Or Here?

What's Your Tag?

playstation-logo-21Remember back to February 20, 2013 when Sony revealed the PS4 and wowed us with games and features? Now that we are over a year past the announcement, how do those promises stand up? Everybody wants to talk about Microsoft’s back-peddling but let’s take a look at PlayStation’s follow through.

knackHow about those games? I don’t know about you, but I never even had a spark of interest in Knack. Although I don’t think it is a bad game, I’m just not interested in it. Granted Call of Duty: Ghosts was the best seller on both the PS4 and Xbox One, there was little that caught the imagination exclusive to the PS4 until inFAMOUS: Second Son was released, and some would debate if that game was a deal breaker in any way. I did like Killzone: Shadow Fall, but even as a huge fan of the series, I couldn’t force…

What's Your Tag?

Brocast E3 Microsoft

In the 9th episode of the What’s Your Tag? Brocast the gang discusses Microsoft’s success at E3 this year and the huge number of exclusives headed to the Xbox One. It’s going to be a great year for America.

We were all incredibly impressed with the way Microsoft handled E3, especially considering the tragedy that was last year’s media briefing. Phil Spencer and the Xbox team obviously wanted the focus to be on the “the games” and that was absolutely the case. Not only did we get some huge third party announcements, but we also got a look at the exciting exclusives coming to Xbox One. All this incredible news in conjunction with the $100 price drop gives fans and potential consumers a great deal to be hyped for.

Thanks for listening to our brotastic podcast! If you like what you hear, let us know! Our goal is create something…

Destiny Early Access Alpha

What's Your Tag?

Destiny-Featured1

Rough, unpolished, but great to play — that is how I would sum up the Destiny Early Access Alpha on PS4. It was with a near giggle that I loaded up my copy of the alpha and saw the Bungie logo on my screen. As a player whose main platform is the PlayStation, Bungie has been a strong absence on my console of choice and this was but the first step in completely changing that.

destiny-alpha-dudeSince the beta will be available next month, I don’t want to go on about everything that was in the alpha. I’d rather you get to explore and experience Destiny for the first time much as I did, without prejudice or expectation. Especially since there is a good chance that the beta will show little more than what was available in the alpha, but what a treat this was.
