X-Men: Daze of Future Past

xmendaysHow much can they pack into one movie before it bursts? That’s like asking how much fits into a burrito.

The not so distant future is not a very bright place. The Sentinels that were once meant to protect humanity are now an ominous force that shows no mercy to human or mutant. The war has raged for years and the Sentinels clearly have the upper hand. Mutant kind and their human allies are barely surviving. Charles Xavier and Magneto have concluded that this war cannot be won, it must be stopped before it ever begins. Wolverine is sent into the past to prevent the war.

The X-men movies have been a favorite of mine since they started making them. This one is a very good addition to the series. It continues the prequel time line and plays with the future as well. I won’t give any spoilers away because I want you to go see this for yourself. Obviously money was not an object when making this movies. The special effects are of the highest caliber and absolutely amazing. The cast is a star-studded roll call to boot. Hugh Jackman heads up the cast but even with smaller roles, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan make their presence known. A huge tip of the hat goes to Peter Dinklage who steals the screen every time he is on it. Jennifer Lawrence running around in a blue body suit isn’t bad either.

The movie wasn’t perfect though. There were parts that didn’t quite fit together right in my mind. Mostly they were little things but they were enough to annoy me. The biggest problem I had with the movie was the fact that it was in 3D. I can’t hold that against the actual movie but I just don’t like watching 3D movies. Wearing the glasses for two or more hours is not fun and I always end up with a headache.

My personal complaints about the movie are well diminished by the entertainment value of the movie. Go see it and be excited about the sequels that are set to come from it.
